Best internal SATA DVD R/W burner?
I spent ages looking at Kprobe test results (et al) when I sought my
last drive. Ended up with a NEC 2500A, which produced CDs that in my
tests gave lower read error rates than most pressed CDs! It also
burned DVD -R really well too... but it's dying. Can anybody recommend
a current drive of similar quality?

The answer to the related CD-R/W question was always "Plextor." I know
they make DVD drives. Are they still "the best?"

Oops missed this-

Mike, the Plex models I've seen tested in recent times have produced
very average burns with high error rates. I've looked, just can't find
anything close to my busted NEC for CD writing.. there are some very
mediocre products out there right now

Mediocre, but at least they're cheap. I never got a Plextor drive
because they were so much more expensive than Sony, TEAC, LiteOn and
whoever else "makes" them. I don't burn a lot of CDs (or now DVDs) so I
don't figure I have a reputation to maintain. If I make a CD for someone
and it doesn't work, I'll just make another. But I realize that these
things are important. Too bad you can't get the dependability any more
even if you're willing to pay for it. It's a common problem today.

I've had good luck with several different models of NEC drives over the past
several years. More specifically these have been DVD burners that also get
tasked with burning lots of CDs. What is their latest-greatest model in the
format you want?
