CD printer? Dymo?
Hi,
I'm looking for a printing solution for short run CD and DVD.
I can burn discs in my Mac, but am looking for a print on disk device.
The Discmakers Elite 4 burner/printer robot was here for a while but the
power supply kept blowing out firewire ports in itself and on my Mac.
I'm liking the hydroshield blank disks and am looking for a Mac-based inkjet
printer for my small runs (1-20).
The Dymo looks interesting, but slightly weird. If there's a really good
short run printer/burners, I'm also interested. Any thoughts?
Regards,
Ty Ford

Some of the Epson printers will print on appropriate DVDs. I'll sell you my
unused R-380 if you're interested.

A couple of years ago a CD tray became standard-issue on a lot of
domestic printers. I've been using a cheap Canon Pixma inkjet. The
supplied software is perfectly adequate. I burn short runs two at a
time on my PC, the printer is quite fast enough to keep up with this.
The Pixma also does a good job on my occasional need for colour
photo-printing.
I think Epson also put a CD tray on a lot of their printers.

I use an HP C5280 all-in-one printer,scanner, copier which includes a
CD/DVD tray. I use it for printing short run CDs and have so far done a
few hundred on it. It works well and has Windows drivers but don't know
about the MAC. It cost me less than 90 GBP.

I've been using an Epson R300 for several years.
I installed a 3rd party "continuous ink supply" (CIS)
system on it to make the cost of printing reasonable.
But it has always been slow and fiddly.
I just got an Dymo DiskPainter and I love it.
It is much faster than the Epson. I'm hoping that
I can get cartridge refills (or CIS) for the Dymo
to keep the cost down.

The first review I found on the web says the Dymo's print quality is
poor. How do you find it?

Better than my Epson 300. I haven't tried it on the glossy
"waterproof" discs, yet.

I use an Epson R260 printer. It's served me well for over a year.

A customer of mine has one of the Epson printers... it does not burn, only
print, and it only takes two discs at a time so it effectively has to be
hand-fed, but it seems reliable. Cost per disc is fairly high because of
the overpriced ink cartridges, but the up-front cost is low.

Mike Rivers turned me onto these folks, back when they were Inkjets
Soutwest. I have had excellent results with their Epson-compatible ink
carts, at a fraction of the Epson price. (Kurt A. had less satisfactory
results.)

Ty,
I've had good results with Primera Bravo line (SE and II).
