Edirol R1 Hum when used with Power Supply: Any Fixes?
We've found that the Edirol R1 produces a hum when used with its power
supply, but not with the batteries. Has anyone come up with a good
workaround for this?

I have an HP laptop that needs the power adapter to be plugged into a
ground adapter (cheater plug) WITHOUT connecting the GROUNDING lead. ... may
or MAY NOT help, but I would appreciate knowing what YOU found.
Thanks,
j

This is a ground loop. Correct and safe methods for dealing with ground
loops are discussed in the FAQ. Sucide cords are neither correct nor safe.

Record something with nothing connected except power supply and
microphone. Listen to it with just headphones attached. Is the hum
recorded?

.Check the voltage on the AC adaptor ( the website did not indicate
polarity or voltage) to see if it is correct.

.Change the AC adaptor to give a regulated supply at the correct
voltage.

What frequency is the hum? 60Hz? Or 120Hz? (substitute "50Hz" and "100Hz" if
appropriate.) Look in a DAW to know for sure.

How about a regulated power supply? Or tossing some capacitance on the
output of the one you've got?

Unless the issue you've got is a ground loop, in which case an audio
transformer might be in order.
