New Delta 1010: Any Reason To Wait?
Hi Friends,
I'm thinking of buying a Delta 1010, which I'm also considering running
with a Black Lion Microclock, here:
http://www.blacklionaudio.com/microclock.html
My question is whether anyone might know "the inside word" that a newer
8-in/8-out is due from M-Audio soon. Any reason to wait?
Thanks for any help.
Regards,
Joe

I hate to sound like I'm preaching anti Black Lion here (second
mention of the company in a couple of days) but try it without the
Microclock first. A high quality external clock really only improves a
poorly designed converter. Better to just get a better converter.

I don't know any inside word, but since M-Audio has pretty much been
bringing out "external" (Firewire and USB) interfaces exclusively
these days, and there aren't a lot of new internal interfaces coming
out, I wouldn't hold your breath.
You know the waiting principle, don't you? If you wait, you'll always
find something better. If you don't wait, you'll get some work done.
Take your pick. The best situation, of course, is that you can make
money with what you can buy now. Then you'll have money to replace it
when something better comes along.
There's no reason why you can't do good work with a Delta 1010 right
now, as it is, right out of the box. After you've used it for a while
and get the hang of working with it, if you have some loose cash, buy
an external clock on approval. If it really wows you, keep it. If you
have any doubts, you're probably right. Send it back.

Thanks Mike. At this point, I'm neither pro nor con regarding BLA, so
it's no problem. Only considering an external clock as an option, since
I was told by another Delta 1010 user that he clocks his with a small
Lynx card and it sounds "better," FWIW. I would definitely try the 1010
straight out of the box first. Also BLA offer a 30-day return, so it's
a no-lose situation.

Makes sense. Thanks for your input.

MY REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS AUDIO GROUP
Rec.audio.pro has taken a sudden turn for the worse. Bret Ludwig has
chosen to post long and often in favor of subjects abhorrent to many:
racism, Hitler apologies, etc. I on the other hand continue to write cogent
discussions on my booming professional audio career. The subjects Mr.
Ludwig discusses, and his advocacies, are related to white supremacism, war,
and genocide of unimaginable scale throughout human history. While I cannot
say I know that Mr. Ludwig is a monster, there is something quite horrible
lurking in his heart, perhaps sharing space with better emotions.
In what I am about to suggest, I considered the pain it might cause Mr.
Ludwig, as opposed to allowing rec.audio.pro to be overtaken by hate
speech and the reaction to it. Furthermore, my suggestion is merely a
suggestion. Rather than tell you this is the only right thing to do, I
respect the decision of each participant in r.a.p. with respect to this
matter as the right choice for that person.
So here it is: Do not respond to Mr. Ludwig on any subject save audio.
Resist the temptation to engage him, because for him, engagement is a kind
of confirmation. Allow him to reign undisturbed over a domain of silence.
Eventually, time will form a capsule over him like a fly in amber.
Please think about this and decide if it is right for you.
