Standalone Audio Interface
I've been searching for quite some time now for a relatively small
(although at this point, rack mount is definitely in the game)
audio/MIDI interface that could operate as both part of a
computer-based DAW, and as a standalone unit. I recognize that the
standalone feature will be much more limited; I'm thinking moreso at
that point as a switchbox/mixing type of unit with preamps. I have
been considering the MOTU products, but I'm running into quite a few
conditional statements, even from retailers, that with a PC based
system, things may not be as smooth as I'd want.
I've been using a Focusrite Saffire LE for a while now. Exceptional
performance, but limitation to having a computer connection.
Open to any and all suggestions. thanks
By the way, if I have simply missed the setup of the LE and indeed it
could operate as such, very much open to critique and ridicule.

What bad things do you hear about the Motu? AFAIK, they an excellent
reputation in all respects.
I have one of these: http://tascam.com/products/fw-1082.html, and it is
fully functional as a standalone unit.

Monroe, I'm sorry, I've done some searching, and found some MOTU problems.
There is the suggestion that the sound is impaired by a cheap clock.

The complaints you may find by Google were resolved with the firmware update
to v1.83
